Job Description
We are creating a new Innovation Laboratory at our Vienna site, Takeda’s largest manufacturing site for plasma-derived therapies globally. Modern advances in diagnostics and a raising awareness for rare diseases championed by Takeda, mean that our products can reach an ever-increasing number of diagnosed patients and help them achieve a higher quality of life and a greater life-expectancy. Our group, External Supply & Plasma Innovation strives to develop new, innovative methods and technologies to expand our plasma capabilities. We elevate our manufacturing capabilities and spearhead external collaboration opportunities, drive plasma innovation management and closely collaborate with the BioLife plasma collection centers and Plasma-Derived Therapies R&D.
The scope of innovation opportunities is immense, due to process complexity; from automation opportunities to process technology to materials innovation across the entirety of the manufacturing process. You will be at the center of plasma innovation and development for Takeda’s global plasma operational unit.
The Head of Innovation Laboratory will have the following accountabilities and responsibilities:
Lead the innovation lab team (5 scientists) and provide them with clear prioritization, coaching, and opportunities to elevate their capabilities and skills
Take the lead on discovery, exploration, utilization and integration of innovations into the complex Takeda network
Help create the scientific and practical foundation for the implementation of new technologies in Takeda’s plasma product manufacturing
Lead and deliver adequate technical assessments together with R&D for global plasma product expansions
Lead matrixed teams including key stakeholders to implement new technologies assessed in the Innovation lab into large-scale manufacturing at Takeda or at a CMO
Closely collaborate and actively liaise with the R&D plasma process development team, Manufacturing Science, Quality, external suppliers and CMOs, internal manufacturing network
Your background and qualifications:
Extensive knowledge and experience in plasma product manufacturing, plasma product development or quality including virus safety aspects
Excellent knowledge in plasma protein production processes and/or quality topics and/or development of plasma processes from plasma to final container as well as knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies to improve yield, efficiency and quality
Master of Science or a PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, chemical or process engineering, or equivalent
At least 10 years of experience in manufacturing, quality or development of plasma derived products
Leadership experience within cross-functional teams; ability to set clear priorities and recognize value-adding initiatives
Fluent English and German, additional languages are a bonus
Demonstrated experience as team member and leader
Advanced coaching, conflict resolution and communication skills
Ability to interact with highly skilled and experienced experts in a complex field of global manufacturing and supply organizations and managing complex relationships to Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO) and suppliers
Ability to operate cross functionally, working with outside parties and key stakeholders like manufacturing, quality or R&D
